Track Day Goodies

I decided it was time to buy my own helmet, an OMP Superkart with a Custom Gold Iridium Visor. I had found during track sessions that my hands got rather sweaty so I purchased a pair of OMP Wins Top Race gloves as well.

Gold Iridium Visor

The fit for both items was spot on and the gloves in particular felt like a second skin.
I would have loved to have gone for the Snell approved Arai GP5 helmet, but I would not be looking to compete anytime soon which is why I had gone for the Superkart.

A Snell approved helmet is competition legal for a maximum of 10 years. To explain in simple terms why:
  • Snell update their standards every 5 years
  • A Snell standard is no longer valid for competition use when the 2nd succssive standard update is released e.g. Take Snell 2000, Snell 2005 and Snell 2010 standards. Snell 2000 is valid for competition use until Snell 2010 is released.
There was no point me getting such an expensive helmet now, especially as Snell 2010 was due to be released towards the end of the year. Additionally I had flirted with the idea of Kart racing, so the SuperKart would fit regulation requirements of karting competitions and track days
